OSCAR IS COMING

As we all know, the 84th annual Academy Awards show is coming up next Sunday,February 26, televised starting at 4:00pm PST. The Silver Screen Modiste will be selecting the Most Glamorous Gown Award, as it has done the past two years, along with a runner-up. The Most Galmorous Gown was given last year to Anne Hathaway's red Valentino gown. Mr. Valentino Garavani had designed the gown in his trademark Valentino red color before his retirement. His attendance with Anne Hathaway on the red carpet offered a great moment in history. In case this wasn't clear before, the symbiosis between the leading fashion designers and Hollywood stars is cast in stone. The Silver Screen Modiste chose another stunning red gown for runner-up, worn by Jennifer Lawrence. It was a very simple and ultra sleek number designed by Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein.

The Golden Globe Awards offered a great preview to how exciting and glamorous the Oscar gowns of 2012 will be. Selecting the Most Glamorous and runner up awards will be a challenge. Stay tuned.

The Modiste will also be analyzing the Best Costume Design Oscar. Although I predict The Artist and Mark Bridges will win, it is a very competitive field. The period films such as the Oscar nominated Jane Eyre and Anonymous are the usual favorites, although the costumes for W.E. designed by Ariane Phillips were perticularly outstanding (see my post The Oscar Costume Design Contenders here).

Enjoy the show and we'll see you next week.

Looking forward to finding out who walks away with your Most Glamorous Gown award, Christian - not to mention the runner up awards. I loved that Valentino gown Anne Hathaway wore last year - and I didn't know that he'd retired. What a talent - and such a shade of red...

As for 2011 runners up, I remember liking the gowns Halle Berry and Hilary Swank wore, but don't remember much about them.

Thanks for the comment Lady Eve. I'm sure this years Oscar red carpet will be fabulous. Yes, the great Valentino retired. The brand survives, but frankly it's not the same Valentino.

As much as I want to see the show, I want to see the red carpet even more. I can't help it!

Yes FlickChick, I agree. I'm sure it will be a very good one this year. We had lots of color at the Globes (they should come up with a better matching shade of red carpet) let's see about the Oscars.

Looking forward to Sunday. I hope people take more chances; even if they fail, it's better than everyone playing it safe and looking boring. I know "The Artist" most likely will win for costume design, but I never count out Sandy Powell, who has three Oscars and is up for "Hugo." Can't wait to see what dress you choose as this year's most glamorous!

Thanks for your comments Classicfilmboy. It should be interesting. All of the costume nominees are excellent so anyone could win. As you say, Sandy Powell is a multiple Oscar winner and always a contender.

I am especially excited about the Red Carpet this year, as I'll be blogging about how "successful" the actresses' choices are, from the standpoint of an image consultant. Kimberly of GlamAmor will kick it all off on LAMB blog HQ on Monday with her fab report, too, then I'll add some "color commentary" on Tues. Should be fun! I hope you'll weigh in, Christian. Oh, and I must share--I finally got my wonderful copy of your book and intend to savor it this weekend. I only hope I can meet you someday so you can autograph it! Thanks for writing it!
Warmly, Kay
