STYLISH BLOGGER AWARD

Rachel at the great new blog The Girl with the White Parasol just nominated the Silver Screen Modiste for a Stylish blogger Award. Thank you Rachel for your nomination and the nice things you said about my blog. I am gratified that the Silver Screen Modiste is seen and reviewed as a whole instead of just for its specific images.

According to the rules of the Award, I should:

1) Thank and link back to the blogger who awarded you with the award.
2) Share 7 Things about yourself.
3) Award recently discovered great bloggers.
4) Contact the bloggers and inform them of the award

So - here are some random and Stylish things I can say about myself:

1. I started the now long ago fad of men wearing white shoes. This may actually seem unstylish but in 1965 it was hep. You couldn't find white shoes for men other than cleated golf shoes. I got mine in France and wore them all over L.A. until everyone else started wearing them.

2. I also started the teenage boy fad of wearing shearling jackets. At the time only cowboys in print ads wore them but I thought they were cool.

3. I can't claim to have been the first to wear bell-bottoms but when two or three of us started wearing them in high school the only bell-bottoms you could find were Navy-issue blue denims. We were sent home from school for awhile until the style was accepted.

4. I'm happy to still have the paisley Nehru jacket I wore in 1968 - see my post The Man of Fashion for a picture of it.

5. I'm stylish enough to know that style doesn't always come with a label. It's not a matter of being critical but of being discerning. Same goes for fads. I also believe that the primary instrument in music is the voice

6. I seek beauty. It's in more places than you think.

7. Style is in writing as well as in art. No one expects you to paint a picture the same way as another artist - so why do we need to write like someone (or everyone) else?

And here are the blogs I nominate for the Stylish blogger Award.

One - Cinema Style for Cathy's great sense of style and knowledge about the art behind the art of movie-making.

Two -  iamnotastalker for Lindsay's unabashed enthusiasm and determination to find and document the locations of movie and TV filming.

Three - The Vintage Costume Collector for the Costume Collector's dedication in pursuing, preserving and showing the costumes of Golden Age Hollywood.

Four -  Glamoursplash for Pamela's splashy blog on vintage swimsuits.

Five - The Fashion Historian for undergraduate Katy's stylish and informative blog on historic fashion.

Six - Forgotten Old Photos for her wonderful efforts at finding and reuniting old forgotten photos with an appropriate home.

Seven - The Camel Barn Library for Caroline's haunting and beautiful blog about the Aegean coast of Turkey - let it continue.

May they blog on and on with style and substance

Wow, thank you so much for the nomination! I'm very flattered!!

P.S. I actually got to study an Adrian gown once upon a time. In doing research for my 18th century movie costumes project I got to study one of the gowns worn by a lady in waiting in Marie Antoinette (the gold one with the black swirls). It was the most stunning thing I have ever seen.

I am so so pleased I found your amazing blog! I am writing mine about costume, fashion, music and art, and I am so happy to have found one about my true passion - costume in films. Next year I hope to go to Uni to study Costume Design and Making so reading your blog is really interesting for me. Thank you:)
